Disclaimer: This is not an attempt to add to the vast historical treasure of documents regarding Joan of Arc but rather to add my own internal voices to those of God and the saints who told her what to do. Voice hearing is an interesting phenomenon referenced in the DSM. It is not necessarily a pathology, according to the International Hearing Voices Network, but rather a variation on human behavior, like being left-handed.
VIOLATED HIGHRISE, San Diego City Hall
A collective had formed to make art in protest of the City of San Diego ordinance against "Illegal Lodging" which at that time allowed the constant harassment and removal of homeless people from their camps.
My contribution was inspired by a novel by Doris Lessing, "Memoirs of a Survivor," picturing a postapocalyptic world in which highrises had all the glass busted out so that animal husbandry and agriculture could move in.
The iconic image entitled JB Peels the Potatoes was used for years to advertise the Town Tavern cafe in Norman Oklahoma, where I worked as a waitress and photographer in the 1970s. JB, who grew up on a farm, also washed dishes and had many friends who stopped by on a daily basis. Garland, who is shown making a toast with JB, hauled the trash in an open pickup truck. The bar where JB stopped in when not working borrowed the negative and made a giant framed portrait to hang where everybody could see it, because they held him in such high esteem.

This began as a survival instinct and grew into a sensory pleasure that comforted and anesthetized pain. The instinct grew out of bounds. The cultural context was disabled. This painting was part of a larger show called "Eating" and opened up an era in history called The Little Ice Age in Europe.
